| ABADAN
|
A delta-shaped island of Shatt Arab at the end of Persian Gulf was first named Khezr Island in the past and changed into Abadan in 1935 AD. Abadan was just a village and not that important in the past but after exploring petroleum in 1908 AD it has started to improve rapidly due to the development of oil industry. A huge refinery was constructed in Abadan which was one of the largest in the world but badly damaged during the war between Iran and Iraq. Now it is reconstructed but in a smaller scale.
